Microsoft forced to rename the interface Metro


Microsoft's need to stop using the word "Metro" in the name of the interface of Windows 8 and Windows Phone, The Verge blog reports, citing its own sources. The publication has at its disposal a memo in which Microsoft employees are urged to no longer use that word. A letter with similar content sent as Microsoft application developers for Windows 8. Currently the company is looking for a new term for the name of the interface. Until then, until it is approved, Metro recommended to call the "new user interface."


According to one version, the reason for rejection of the word "Metro" was a dispute over intellectual property rights with the German company Metro AG. Both companies did not comment on that information. Name of Metro are based on the language of typography design (design language), as well as the user interface, which embodied the principles of the language. One of the key elements of the interface are the Metro "live tiles" with the updated information.
