The Spanish company Telefonica has shown a prototype of public Smartphone operating system Firefox OS, based on web standards HTML5. The company explained the reasons for them, despite the existence of the iPhone and multiple devices on Android, it was decided to use this platform. According to Telefonica, Firefox OS will allow the operator to gain independence from Android. In addition, the platform will reduce the cost of devices without compromising their functionality, said CEO Matthew Key.  Marketers Telefonica sees great potential in the Firefox OS as an engine of growth of the smartphone market, especially in developing countries, and believe that the platform is immune to failures that previously accompanied the set of similar projects. The prototype smartphone was created by Qualcomm, an American manufacturer of processors for mobile devices. Demonstrating a smartphone, representatives of Telefonica said its multitasking feature messaging, access to Facebook and play. The prototype has a touch screen and four touch-sensitive buttons. According to representatives of Telefonica, all functions have been presented are based on HTML5. 

According to Director of Development at Telefonica Carlos Domingo, to create applications for Firefox OS to be easy, since 75% of applications for Android and the iPhone is designed based on HTML5, as well as by a sufficiently strong community of Mozilla and brand awareness. Matthew Key said that the first smartphone based on Firefox OS will be launched in Brazil in the first quarter 2013 cost of the device will not exceed $ 100. "We can create the same experience of interaction, as well as on Android, and even better and at lower cost," - said the head of Telefonica.
